We understand that our students may need varying types of support whilst studying at college which is why our student support teams are on hand to advise and support you.

Careers, Advice and Guidance

Whether it’s a transition to college, considering a change in career or during your time studying with us, your future aspirations are at the heart of what we do and we are on hand to offer advice and guidance with all aspects of your career and progression. Our specialist Admission and Guidance teams will ensure a high-quality professional service in which you receive impartial advice and guidance throughout your time at college.

Offering support in college admissions, careers and higher education, our teams can help identify the right course for you as well as support you in your planning and progression onto work-based learning, employment or higher education.

Additional Learning Support

South Hampshire College Group are committed to creating equality of opportunity and recognise that different individuals or groups may require different levels of support to achieve equality and success.

Our Additional Learning Support teams will work with you to meet the challenges of your studies and enable full participation in the opportunities available so that you can achieve both your academic and personal aspirations.

If you have an identified additional support need and/or medical condition, there are trained staff available at each college location to talk to.

There are many ways we can support you throughout your student experience.

During your time at college:

  • A dedicated team of Learning Support, Emotional Literacy Support and Personal Care Assistants
  • Access arrangements
  • Opportunity for smaller working spaces outside the classroom, with support of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
  • Access to specialist software and equipment that can aid learning

Before you start college:

  • Contact Learning Support teams via the college reception
  • Informal interviews to identify needs and support available
  • Learning Support staff are available during college open events, welcome events and taster sessions
  • Campus tours
  • Smaller group sessions
  • Support for Parents/Guardians

The safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults is of paramount importance to us; ensuring a safe, positive, and secure environment for our students is fully embraced by all and underpins the College’s values.

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm, including:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

As an education provider and in accordance with the relevant government legislation, South Hampshire College Group has a statutory and moral duty to commit to practices that protect young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or significant harm.

It is our number one priority to equip our students and staff with the skills and knowledge to stay safe both in and outside of college; each of our colleges and training centres within the college group have a dedicated safeguarding team, who are always available to assist with difficult or potentially harmful problems that students may face at college or at home.

All of our students are supplied with the information, advice and support that they need to stay safe and actively participate in college life, and to proactively spot and report potential risks to their own safety or that of others.

College staff recognise and accept their responsibility to develop an awareness of the risks and issues involved in safeguarding and committed with working with local authorities and other agencies to ensure the safeguarding of its students.

Prevent

As part of our Safeguarding commitments, South Hampshire College Group operates a Prevent strategy which aims to protect children and vulnerable adults from the risk of terrorism, ideological challenge, radicalisation or violent extremism.

As part of our Prevent strategy, we actively promote and reinforce the core British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and belief, inclusiveness and integrity.

Our Prevent strategy exists to protect our students and colleagues from the impact of radicalisation or terrorist influence, and ensure that the appropriate advice and support is available and understood by all members of the College community.
