Day 7 – Last nights sleeps wasn’t great, I think I had about 4 hours. The beds were not the most comfy but It was such an eye opening experience to see how the tribe would sleep and where they live. I also think it was such an amazing thing to experience because I would have never have the opportunity to do something like that and it has made me learn so many new things about the tribe. At about 8am we went out for breakfast the tribe had cooked us some bread rolls, crepes and fruit. Once we had finished breakfast we were told we were going for a safari walk at 9:15. The walk took about 4 hours but it was so worth it. We didn’t see any animals in the beginning of the walk but the scenery was just amazing to walk through and just be around nature. We were walking for a couple hours until we saw some zebras in the distance so started walking closer towards them. As we got closer we realised there was also gazelles and wilder beast. There was so many gazelles and wilder beasts but there was only about 5 zebras. It was so peaceful to watch them walk around in their own habitat. We carried on walking and got to a massive rock where one of the Maasai tribe climbed up to the top to have a look around, he said that he saw a group of giraffes in the distance. So we started walking over in that direction to see if we could get closer. We walked over to them and saw 5 giraffes stood in a group. We slowly started to get closer and closer and ended up so close to them they were literally right in-front of us. We stood and looked at them for about 10 minutes whilst they just looked back at us. That moment was so surreal I can’t believe I was that close to a giraffe. We then started walking back but that point we had been walking for about four hours so we were all very tired so we got the bus to meet us and take us back to the Maasai village. However we then found out that our bus got stuck in the mud because it had been raining the day before. So we all got onto the bus and sat at the back and all of the men were trying to push the bus back out of the mud. By the 5th try they ended up getting us out and we made our way back to the village.
When we got back we had some lunch and a drink. We got welcomed back by another welcome dance which is so amazing to watch. We then got shown there museum and one of the maasia explained the origin of the tribe, their food, clothes and beliefs. We also got shown into the grandmas house which is where they cook and where she sleeps. They use cow skin as a mattress and they had a bonfire on the floor so they can cook. Before we entered we had to say maasia to show we are coming in and men would have to cough before they enter. After that they showed us how to bead and I then made a bracelet for myself that we got to keep, which was very nice of them.
Once we finished we had to get all our stuff together and make our way to another hotel for the night. We said goodbye to all of the maasia tribe and started the journey. We were about 30 minuites into the journey and we drive right by a giraffe. It was so close to the bus and we stopped right next to it. Surprisingly the giraffe didn’t move when we drive past it stayed where it was which was such an amazing thing to experience. There was also some other giraffes in the distance that we could see but they were no where near as close as the other one.
We got to our next hotel, it is called the maridadi hotel and was so beautiful. We all had a shower and got ready for dinner after a long day of walking and being in the sun. I had butternut squash soup and spicy pasta which I enjoyed a lot. We were all so tired from the long day so after we all went to bed to get a good rest for the next day.
