This course will equip you with the ability to master the basics of video production and enable you to produce video content for your website, social media channels or any other platform. The course will be delivered through a combination of classroom teaching and creative workshops, with a heavy emphasis on you working on your own projects to develop your skills through practical application.
In 6 weeks, you will cover the following:
• How businesses and organisations make effective use of video.
• Planning your own production, identifying the equipment you will need, including making the most of what you already have.
• Basic cinematography including framing, movement, lighting, exposure, understanding video formats.
• Effective use of sound, including shooting sound on location. Shooting an interview.
• Running a shoot.
• Introduction to editing.
• Capturing footage, setting up and managing an editing project, basic editing techniques.
• Further postproduction, including refining your edit, adding titles and graphics, sound effects and music, exporting your video for distribution.
There are no entry requirements for this course. However, participants will be using editing software on a laptop and an understanding of computer basics is essential.
Although all equipment for practical sessions will be provided, it is recognised that participants may have equipment of their own and will be hoping to learn how to make more effective use of it. Participants are encouraged to use their own equipment for the practical sessions on this course and to develop their skills further by practising what they have learned away from class.
A suitable laptop with editing software installed is recommended, though not essential (Adobe Premiere, Movavi Video Editor).
Any questions about equipment or software can be asked during the application process.
Students may consider further courses within TV and Film, such as the HNC Film and Television at Fareham College.
We have events at all our locations running throughout October and November.
