Are you ready to take the next step in your electrical engineering career?

As a Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician (Electrical), you will develop the advanced technical and leadership skills needed to support, maintain and improve complex electrical systems across industries such as manufacturing, automotive, maritime, energy and engineering maintenance.

This apprenticeship is designed for experienced electrical engineering technicians looking to progress into a senior technical role with greater responsibility for maintenance planning, fault diagnosis, team leadership and asset management.

In this role, you could work in manufacturing plants, dockyards, shipyards, vehicle maintenance facilities, workshops or operational engineering environments. You may support installation, testing, commissioning, overhaul and maintenance activities while ensuring electrical systems and equipment operate safely and efficiently.

This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required to demonstrate competency as a Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician (Electrical), including:

  • Supporting installation, maintenance, overhaul and commissioning activities on complex electrical systems and equipment
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and resolving technical engineering problems using structured approaches
  • Planning maintenance schedules and coordinating engineering activities to meet operational deadlines
  • Leading or supervising maintenance teams and supporting technicians with technical guidance
  • Carrying out inspections, testing and quality assurance activities on electrical assets and systems
  • Working safely in line with industry regulations, environmental standards and company procedures
  • Managing technical documentation, maintenance records and reporting processes
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers, engineers and operational teams to ensure successful project delivery

You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through a combination of on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need to have relevant employment within an engineering or manufacturing environment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.

Applicants are typically expected to hold:

  • A Level 3 Engineering qualification or equivalent experience
  • GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 Functional Skills)
  • An interest in progressing into a senior technical or supervisory engineering role

As part of the apprenticeship, learners will complete or hold a Level 4 HNC (or equivalent qualification) in an Engineering

On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills and experience to work as a Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician (Electrical) within a range of engineering sectors.

Assessment

Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.

Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.

The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.

Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
