The Course in Detail

*This is a progression only course. There is no direct entry without first completing Level 2 Professional Catering or a similar qualification.

If you’re aiming to specialise in Maritime Engineering, this T Level programme is your pathway to an exciting career in the maritime industry.

T Levels are two-year, Level 3 study programmes that have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses and are equivalent to three A Levels.

You will get a mix of hands-on practical training in workshops, classroom theory learning, and a minimum 45-day industry placement with an employer to give you real experience of the workplace. They also provide excellent progression into industry, apprenticeships as well as university.

In your first year, you’ll build a solid foundation with core knowledge that includes:

  • Working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors: Understanding how materials, conditions, and context influence design processes and products
  • Essential Mathematics for Engineering and Manufacturing: Including standard matrices, determinants, and trigonometry
  • Materials and Their Properties: Understanding material processing techniques, their effects on quality, and material testing methods
  • Business, Commercial, and Financial Awareness: Gaining insight into commercial priorities, markets, and resource allocation

Maritime Engineering Specialism:

As you progress, you’ll specialise in Maritime Engineering, with a focus on the unique requirements and challenges of the maritime sector.

You’ll learn:

  • Installation, Fault Diagnosis, and Repair of Marine Engines
  • Installation and Repair of Marine Propulsion Systems
  • Installation and Repair of Vessel Services
  • Principles of Marine Construction and Components
  • Safe and Effective Working in the Marine Industry

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (including English and maths)
OR a relevant Level 2 qualification (merit or distinction grade) including GCSE English and maths grades 4-9

This Could Lead to

Once completed you can progress to a range of university-level courses, this can include HNC/HND qualifications within the college group or degree courses at university.

You can also progress into skilled employment or into a higher-level apprenticeship.
