Are you interested in technology, enjoy solving problems and want to develop the skills to support people and organisations in a digital world?
Our T Level Digital Support and Security course will give you the technical knowledge, practical skills and industry experience you need to start a career in IT and digital support.
You’ll learn how digital systems work, how organisations use technology and how to identify and resolve technical problems. You’ll develop your understanding of areas including technical support, networking, cybersecurity, digital environments and data, while gaining valuable experience through an industry placement.
This is a two-year Level 3 qualification, equivalent to three A Levels, giving you a strong foundation for progression into employment, higher-level apprenticeships or university.
You’ll develop a broad understanding of digital technologies and how they are used by organisations.
You’ll learn about:
- Digital technologies and their use in business
- IT systems and infrastructure
- Technical support and troubleshooting
- Networking and network infrastructure
- Cybersecurity and common security threats
- Protecting systems, networks and data
- Digital environments and cloud technologies
- Data and information management
- Operating systems and software
- IT service management
- User needs and customer service
- Professional practices and working in the digital sector
- Legal, ethical and regulatory considerations
- Health and safety in a digital workplace
You’ll also develop specialist technical skills through your chosen occupational specialism, applying your knowledge to realistic workplace scenarios.
How will I learn?
You’ll learn through a combination of classroom teaching, practical activities, projects, problem-solving tasks and industry-focused challenges.
You’ll have opportunities to work with digital systems and technologies, investigate technical problems and develop solutions. You’ll learn how to approach issues methodically, communicate with users and work effectively as part of a technical team.
A key part of the T Level is your industry placement, where you’ll spend a minimum of 45 days with an employer. This gives you the opportunity to put your learning into practice and gain experience of working in a professional digital environment.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through a combination of exams and practical assessments.
The core element includes written exams and an Employer Set Project, where you’ll apply your knowledge and skills to a realistic industry challenge.
You’ll also complete practical assessments as part of your occupational specialism, allowing you to demonstrate your ability to apply technical knowledge and skills in a professional context.
Your industry placement is an important part of the course, giving you the opportunity to develop and demonstrate your skills in a real workplace.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop technical and transferable skills that are valuable across the digital and IT sector.
You’ll develop your ability to:

Industry placement
Your industry placement is a key part of your T Level and gives you the chance to gain valuable experience alongside your studies.
You’ll spend a minimum of 45 days with an employer, working on meaningful activities that help you understand what it is really like to work in the digital and IT sector.
Your placement could give you experience in areas such as IT support, technical support, networking, cybersecurity, systems administration or digital infrastructure, depending on your employer.
The placement will help you build your CV, develop your confidence and make professional contacts, while giving you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you develop at college.
Entry Requirements & Progression
What You'll Need
You will need five GCSEs at grades 4-9, or equivalent (including English and maths)
OR
A relevant Level 2 qualification (merit or distinction grade) including GCSE English and maths grades 4-9, or equivalent.
This full-time course is designed for young people aged 16-18 (or up to 24 if supported with an EHCP).
This Could Lead to
A T Level in Digital Support and Security can open up a range of progression opportunities across the digital and IT sector.
You could progress into roles such as:
- IT Support Technician
- Digital Support Technician
- Service Desk Technician
- Technical Support Technician
- Network Support Technician
- IT Technician
- Infrastructure Technician
- Cybersecurity Support Technician
- Systems Support Technician
You could also progress to a higher-level apprenticeship, including an IT, digital or cybersecurity apprenticeship, or continue your studies at university.
T Levels carry UCAS points and are recognised as equivalent to three A Levels, so the qualification can provide a route into higher education as well as employment and higher-level apprenticeships.
