The Course in Detail

This exciting new Level 3 technical qualification, equivalent to three A Levels, will ensure you have the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical study in a variety of digital and computing occupations.

It provides a mixture of both core and specialist knowledge over a two-year period, and as part of the T Level programme you will carry out an extensive practical industry placement with an employer (minimum of 315 hours).

This is the perfect course if you wish to progress to a digital career with a focus on software design and development.

What will you learn?

  • Business contexts – from infrastructure design to managing change
  • Digital culture – covering ethical/moral issues
  • Data analysis – with data capture, collection, visualisation and modelling
  • Digital analysis – understanding algorithms, abstraction, pattern recognition and decomposition
  • Digital environments – covering system fundamentals for physical, virtual and cloud computing
  • Diversity and inclusion – understanding and valuing differences, sensitivities and equality
  • Digital learning – covering emerging technologies, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), computer graphics (3D)
  • Digital legislation and security – from data protection and intellectual property to security and data sharing
  • Planning and programming/software development – building project plans, integrating software development lifecycle (SDLC), languages such as C, C++ and Python, application and solution development.

Your education will be project-based, providing you with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve competence in your chosen specialism.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need five GCSEs at grades 4-9, or equivalent (including English and maths)

OR

A relevant Level 2 qualification (merit or distinction grade) including GCSE English and maths grades 4-9, or equivalent.

This full-time course is designed for young people aged 16-18 (or up to 24 if supported with an EHCP).

This Could Lead to

Upon successful completion of this Level 3 course, you can progress to a range of university-level courses, this can include HNC/HND qualifications within the college group or courses at university e.g. Computer Science, Computing, Networking or Cyber Security.

You can also progress into skilled employment or into a higher-level apprenticeship e.g. Software Development Technician, Web or Mobile App Developer, Programmer, Automated Test Developer, Application Support Analyst.
