*This is a progression only course. There is no direct entry without first completing Level 2 Professional Catering or a similar qualification.

If you’re aiming to specialise in Maritime Boat Building, this T Level programme is your pathway to an exciting career in the maritime industry.

This course is perfect for you if you are looking at working in the hospitality industry as a chef.

T Levels are two-year, Level 3 study programmes that have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses and are equivalent to three A Levels.

You will get a mix of hands-on practical training in workshops, classroom theory learning, and a minimum 45-day industry placement with an employer to give you real experience of the workplace. They also provide excellent progression into industry, apprenticeships as well as university.

In your first year, you’ll build a solid foundation with core knowledge that includes:

  • Fitting and Assembly Technologies: Techniques for assembling various components accurately and efficiently
  • Machining and Toolmaking Technologies: Skills in precision machining and the creation of tools used in boatbuilding
  • Composites Manufacturing Technologies: Understanding the use of composite materials in marine applications
  • Fabrication and Welding Technologies: Techniques for fabricating metal structures and welding components in boat construction

Boatbuilding Specialism:

As you progress, you’ll specialise in Boatbuilding, where you will develop a deep understanding of marine construction, focusing on building and repairing boat structures.

You’ll learn:

  • Principles of Marine Construction and Components
  • Construction and Repair of Hulls and Boat Structures
  • Producing and Fitting Structural Boat Components
  • Fibre Reinforced Plastics Technology for Marine Constructions
  • Safe and Effective Working in the Marine Industry

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (including English and maths)
OR a relevant Level 2 qualification (merit or distinction grade) including GCSE English and maths grades 4-9

This Could Lead to

Once completed you can progress to a range of university-level courses, this can include HNC/HND qualifications within the college group or degree courses at university.

You can also progress into skilled employment or into a higher-level apprenticeship.
