Do you have a high attention to detail, strong work ethic and love complex problem-solving? Find your future in Marine Engineering.
In this apprenticeship, you will learn to install, maintain and repair components of yachts, workboats, cruise ships or superyachts. Your daily tasks could include repairing boat engines, constructing frameworks, hulls and decks, or installing parts such as engines, propellers and steering systems. Under supervision, you will manufacture, assemble, strip, repair and re-build components, learning to work to the fine tolerances required of Marine Engineers.
Marine Engineers are highly skilled and must adapt to changing demands in the industry as boats become increasingly more complex. With support from your employer and college classes, you will learn to design and produce innovative solutions to meet a variety of boat layouts, restrictions, and engineering requirements.
This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of a Marine Engineer and covers key requirements to include:
You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.
You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.
GCSE English and maths grade 4-9 (or Level 2 functional skills) are preferred.
On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills to work as a Marine Engineer and progress to further career opportunities in the marine sector. This could include a higher-level qualification such as an HNC or degree apprenticeship in marine engineering.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.
Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.
The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.
Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
