The Course in Detail

As an apprentice Installation & Maintenance Electrician, you will gain a set of specialist skills, knowledge and behaviours which are necessary to work competently as an electrician in domestic, commercial and industrial environments.

You will contribute to the design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes, systems or services.

This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of an Electrician and covers key requirements to include:

  • Carrying out electrical installation, initial verification, maintenance, and testing work on a variety of voltages; both AC and DC; single and three-phase
  • Carrying out maintenance regimes, periodic inspection and testing and electrical installation condition reporting of existing electrical installations
  • Undertaking the installation of both wired and wireless solutions in accordance with the requirements of BS 7671 and other relevant industry standards
  • Plan and deliver the best solution for the client, incorporating and integrating new technologies as required, within agreed budget
  • Design and install wiring and connections for known and novel heating and cooling systems, for industrial, commercial, and residential installations which need electrical connections

You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a block or day release basis.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.

GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 functional skills) are preferred.

This Could Lead to

On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills to work as an Electrician, either through working for a company or becoming self-employed. You could also progress into Higher Education such as a HNC or degree apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering.

 

Assessment

Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.

Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.

The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.

Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
