Through an evidence based approach, you would provide opportunities and learning experiences for all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Early years educators follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by government for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 in both indoor and outdoor environments. In your daily work, you would interact with children, parents, carers, colleagues, and wider multi agency professionals such as health visitors, early help services, social workers, and speech and language therapists. This includes supporting children with SEND.
You will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for children’s learning and ensure that the learning environment and provision is inclusive and supports all children, and demonstrate a clear understand of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Early years educator’s teach and facilitate children’s learning play. You would apply the observation, assessment, and planning cycle to support progress and children’s development. You will act as the key person for one or more children within your setting, and may either play a leadership role within the setting or act under the supervision of a manager.
This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of an Early Years Educator and covers key requirements to include:
You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.
You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.
Level 2 Childcare qualification OR at least one year of Early Years experience is required.
GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 functional skills) are also preferred.
On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills to work as an Early Years Educator and progress to further opportunities in the sector. This could include progressing to a foundation degree in Early Years, moving into a Supervisory or Management role, or undertaking a Bacherlors Degree to become a qualified teacher.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.
Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.
The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.
Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
