The Course in Detail
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering is intended as a stand alone course as an alternative to the apprenticeship route.
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies to ensure that it is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector.
It is recommended as a starting point for adult students who are new to, or have limited experience in, the industry, providing a solid foundation for those looking to upskill and progress further into Civil Engineering, Construction or Architecture pathways, including progression into Higher Education.
Throughout the course, students will prepare a portfolio as evidence that they have met the key competencies, including the knowledge, skills and behaviours covered within the qualification.

Although this is not an apprenticeship, our Professional Trainers will routinely meet with students to help them collate evidence and prepare for assessments.
The portfolio is compiled throughout the duration of the course and complements students’ studies.

Entry Requirements
You will need one of the following:
- Four GCSEs at grades 9–4, including English, Mathematics and Science (or equivalent); or
- A Level 2 BTEC Diploma, including Mathematics at Merit or above; or
- A Level 3 NVQ Diploma in a construction-related area.
Mature candidates with relevant experience or other qualifications may also be considered.

After completing this course, there are a number of progression opportunities available. Depending on your final grade, you could progress to:
- HNC in Civil Engineering at CETC
- A Higher Apprenticeship
- Employment within the Civil Engineering and Construction sector
