The day will be split between classroom sessions which cover the under pinning knowledge for the unit and workshop sessions to carry out the practical aspects of this unit. Unit 1 Refrigerant Handling for Mobile Air Conditioning Systems is the licence to practice unit and will be required to purchase R134A gas after 04/07/2010. The assessment for Unit 1 includes a practical based assignment, combined with an oral test which covers the knowledge requirements for the unit. The test will be carried out under controlled conditions by an assessor following the successful completion of the learning activities.
The course will be delivered using a mixture of theoretical learning and practical simulation / demonstration and assessment in the workshop.
This qualification is for those who are already practicing in the industry and wish to continue repair and servicing of mobile air conditioning systems after the 04/07/2010. This unit is recognised by the UK Government as exceeding the minimum requirements of European Commission Directive 307/2008. This regulation requires that persons handling fluorinated gases must be appropriately trained and possess a certificate attesting to the fact. Please note that only Unit 1 Refrigerant Handling for Mobile Air Conditioning Systems is the licence to practice unit. This unit can be completed alone as part of the licence to practice requirement without completing the whole qualification, and will give a certificate of unit credit. The other two units can be completed at a later stage to gain a full certificate.
Candidates should bring typical workshop safety equipment e.g. overalls and safety boots, plus pens and a ring binder for note storage to the lesson which will be delivered both in a classroom (underpinning knowledge) and workshop (practical activities).
Although there are no formal entry requirements to join this course, it is expected that candidates will be either working in the Automotive Industry or be aspiring to work within the Industry, in particular, on Air-conditioning systems for vehicles and portable appliances.
