The Course in Detail

*This is a progression only course. There is no direct entry without first completing a Level 2 Barbering qualification.

This qualification covers specific skills necessary to work as a senior hairdresser in the men’s/barber hairdressing industry. The qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of hairdressing and develops more detailed and enhanced technical skills necessary for employment. Your skills and techniques will be assessed in a real working environment.

There are four mandatory units in this qualification for you to study including:

  • Provide client consultation services
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of barbering techniques
  • Design and create a range of facial hair shapes
  • Provide shaving services
  • Colour and lighten men’s hair
  • Design and create pattern in men’s hair

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need four GCSEs at grades 4-9, or equivalent (including English and maths. Science is also preferred)

Relevant Level 2 Barbering Qualification

This full-time course is designed for young people aged 16-18 (or up to 24 if supported with an EHCP)

An interview is required for this course.

This Could Lead to

You could work in a range of locations including

  • Commercial barbershops/salons
  • Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

You could also move into or progress through further study into

  • Product manufacturing and training
