The Course in Detail

This course is designed for start-ups and small or micro businesses with a new idea or those in the early stages of development. By the end of the programme, you will have created a complete, practical business plan tailored to your venture.

You will be guided by subject specialists and industry experts through focused, relevant content, delivered in an intimate cohort of just six businesses to ensure personalised support and meaningful discussion.

As part of the course, you will also receive free access to the design thinking platform Supervate, which uses AI-powered tools to help you develop, test and refine your ideas.

You will cover:

Day 1 – Wednesday 25 February

  • Foundations of your business
  • Mission, vision and strategy
  • Target market
  • Product or service unique selling point (USP)
  • Market research
  • Introduction to the design thinking AI platform, Supervate

Day 2 – Wednesday 4 March

  • Marketing and brand development
  • Environmental analysis
  • SWOT analysis
  • Marketing mix
  • Branding and visual identity

Day 3 – Wednesday 11 March

  • Finance & commercial planning
  • Costings and pricing
  • Profit and cost of sales calculations
  • Assets and liabilities
  • Profitability and liquidity analysis
  • Risk considerations
  • Funding requirements, payback and rationale

Day 4 – Wednesday 18 March

  • Business planning and next steps
  • Legal considerations
  • Funding options
  • Tax returns and declarations
  • Business plan creation
  • Next steps

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

Spaces on this pilot course are limited to six businesses. To apply, you will need fill in the information and then you will be asked to complete a short application outlining your business idea and your current stage of development. Applications will be reviewed to ensure the course is the right fit following an interview.

Open to individuals who are:

  • In the ideation stage (exploring or developing a business idea, but not yet trading).
  • Pre start (have a defined business idea and are planning to start within the next 12–24 months).
  • Running an early stage start up (registered and trading for less than 24 months).
  • Currently non trading or generating only minimal test/validation revenue (e.g. pilot, side hustle)

As part of your application, you will asked to confirm:

  • What is your business idea?
  • How developed is your idea at this stage?
  • Why do you feel this course would benefit you and your business?
  • Why do you think you should be offered one of the limited places on the pilot?

This Could Lead to

On completion of the course, you will be able to progress your idea to the next stage, supported by a clear business plan and a stronger understanding of how to move forward.
