The Course in Detail

Develop your understanding of distressed behaviour in children with this nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate, delivered through flexible online learning. This course is designed for anyone looking to build their knowledge of why children may display distressed behaviours and how they can be supported.

While challenging behaviour can be a normal part of a child’s development, distressed behaviour can be more complex and may indicate that a child needs additional support. This course will help you develop your understanding of distressed behaviour and the factors that can influence how it is displayed.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore different approaches to supporting children who display distressed behaviour, including the importance of promoting wellbeing, understanding individual needs and working within relevant legislation and guidance.

On this course, you’ll explore:

  • What distressed behaviour is, including the possible causes, who may experience it and the impact it can have on children
  • How distressed behaviour can be assessed and understood
  • Strategies to support children displaying distressed behaviour and ways to reduce or manage incidents
  • How to safely record incidents and understand when physical intervention may be appropriate
  • The relationship between distressed behaviour and mental health, learning disabilities, sensory processing conditions and autism spectrum conditions
  • How to provide appropriate support for children with different needs and promote their wellbeing
  • Relevant UK legislation, guidance and the wider support available for children displaying distressed behaviour
  • How legislation supports the rights and protection of children

Please note – This online learning course is only available to learners living within Hampshire and close surrounding areas. Applications from outside these areas will be returned.
