The Course in Detail

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to health and social care, focusing on core subject areas to support your progression to further learning and your path into industry or higher level study. You’ll engage in practical experience with a weekly work placement in a care setting of your choice, allowing you to observe professional practice and gain valuable employability skills.

The programme is assessment-based, covering essential knowledge required for practitioners working with vulnerable service users. Mandatory units include topics such as equality, diversity, and rights in health and social care, human growth and development, and safeguarding and protection.

Throughout the year, you will have opportunities to attend two different weekly work placements, including day care centres, local primary schools, nurseries, residential care homes, and more. Educational visits will enhance your learning experience, with trips to venues such as Southampton General Hospital LifeLab and Lockswood Day Care Centre. Guest speakers from various fields, including a funeral director and dementia carer, will provide insights into current practices.

Assessment methods include coursework and a portfolio of evidence. Maintaining high standards of attire is essential, with a college uniform required, and textbooks related to your course will be provided to support your learning.
