Are you dreaming of a career as a Chef? Get your start in the industry and gain experience in all areas of the kitchen through our Commis Chef Apprenticeship.
As an Apprentice, you will work with the supervision of experienced Chefs and rotate between all kitchen stations, including fish, grill, pastry, meat, vegetable, sauté and more. You will learn to prepare, cook, and finish meals to very high standards, while meeting time deadlines and ensuring maintenance of food safety and hygiene standards.
Your job role might exist in an organisation like a restaurant, hotel, care home, hospital, military establishment, or cruise ship. A career in hospitality is varied and has the potential to take you to exciting locations anywhere in the UK or across the world.
This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of a Commis Chef and covers key requirements to include:
You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.
You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.
GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 functional skills) are preferred.
On successful completion on this Apprenticeship, you will have the skills to work as a Commis Chef in a range of establishments and progress to further career opportunities, such as Senior Chef or Chef de Partie.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.
Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.
The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.
Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
