The Course in Detail

Got a taste for cooking? Let’s turn it into something bigger.

Are you in Years 9–11 and enjoy being in the kitchen, trying new recipes, or cooking for friends and family? Ever wondered what it’s like to work as a chef, or what happens behind the scenes in a real restaurant?

This six-week course is the perfect starting point if you’re curious about hospitality and want to build your skills in a fun, supportive environment.

You’ll step into a professional kitchen and learn the basics that every great chef starts with. From mastering knife skills to baking fresh bread and creating pastries, you’ll get hands-on experience that brings cooking to life. You’ll also get a taste of what it’s like to work in a real kitchen during service, helping you build confidence and teamwork skills along the way.

What you’ll learn:

  • Essential kitchen and food preparation skills
  • How to safely use professional equipment
  • Bread making and pastry techniques (including choux pastry)
  • Preparing and cooking poultry
  • Working as part of a team during kitchen service

All ingredients are provided, so you can focus on learning and experimenting without the pressure. You’ll also be given a chef’s jacket and hat to wear during your sessions—because feeling the part is all part of the experience.

Whether you dream of becoming a chef, travelling the world, or just want to try something new, this course is a great first step into the exciting world of hospitality.
