Get ready for a career in construction!

Are you aged 19+ and ready to build your future? Our 3-week Construction Work-Based Academy Programme (SWAP) is FREE and is designed specifically to help individuals currently out of work kickstart a new career in construction and civil engineering.

This hands-on course equips you with essential skills, certifications and connections to employers, so you’ll be ready to step straight onto a construction site with confidence and skill.

Course highlights

  • Level 1 Brick Award – Gain practical, foundational bricklaying skills with an Extended Certificate in Construction Skills, giving you the essential expertise in one of construction’s core trades
  • CSCS Green Card Certification – The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Green Card proves your readiness to work on-site safely, meeting industry standards and giving employers confidence in your abilities
  • Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment – Learn the fundamentals of safety practices in construction, ensuring you’re prepared to work securely and effectively on any job site

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

The programme is designed to help jobseekers, who are claiming either Universal Credit (UA), Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), to build confidence, improve job prospects and enhance CVs.

You must be aged 19+, have a good understanding of written and spoken English, and be in receipt of unemployment benefit to be eligible to access this SWAP opportunity free of charge.

Note – you won’t lose your benefits whilst taking part in a SWAP.

This Could Lead to

On completion of this construction programme, you’ll have a guaranteed interview with a local employer or recruitment agency. From here, the doors open to multiple paths in the construction industry including:

  • Level 2 Groundworks Apprenticeship
  • Level 2 Highways Apprenticeship
  • Access to other construction-based courses
  • Direct entry into full-time employment
