As an Engineering Manufacturing Technician, you will use your wealth of technical knowledge and skills to help organisations develop, produce and test new products or systems. You will gather information and data from a range of sources, analyse information and data, make decisions and solve problems.
Where applicable, you’ll update technical documentation, reports or specifications covering areas such as quality, reliability, production schedules and targets, or costing. You will also write documents to advise how a product must be designed, manufactured, tested, modified, maintained, stored, transported, commissioned or decommissioned.
This role can take place in many sectors, including Automotive, Aerospace and Airworthiness, Chemical Processing, Land Systems, Marine, Maritime Defence, Materials Manufacturers and more. You’ll be in in high demand, as research indicates that these sectors need to recruit approximately 124,000 engineers and technicians every year.
This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of an Engineering Manufacturing Technician and covers key requirements to include:
You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.
You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.
You must have a Level 3 Technical Certificate in an Engineering discipline, and GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 functional skills) are preferred.
On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will have the skills to work as an Engineering Manufacturing Technician and progress to further career opportunities in the sector. This could include managing a team or taking on further training to become an Engineer.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.
Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.
The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.
Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
