Business Plus at South Hampshire College Group is your go-to provider for all your professional development, training, and apprenticeship needs.

We provide expert guidance and support to employers seeking to create a skilled workforce with the aim to sustain and grow their business. Our services include recruiting apprentices, or upskilling current staff through apprenticeships or university-level courses, creating adult learning programmes, developing traineeships, running skills bootcamps and sector-based work academy programmes (SWAP), and providing businesses with our large pool of talented students for work experience placements.

Business Plus can also help identify funding where available to best support your training needs.

Our central office is located at Fareham College with additional facilities across the college group, making us ideally placed to foster new and maintain successful business partnerships.

We collaborate with employers to design a curriculum that meets industry needs. This partnership ensures our courses remain relevant and equip students with necessary skills for career success.

Inspired by industry: By working with businesses, we ensure our courses align with the skills and qualifications employers seek. Successful partnerships include developing Groundworks and Engineering Apprenticeships with Solent Civil Engineering Employers’ Group (SCEEG) and creating a field operative standard for Telecoms Engineers with Giganet.

Industry placements are more intensive than traditional work experience, providing a more comprehensive and structured work placement that can equip trainees with a greater variety of skills to make a more meaningful impact on your organisation.

Employers in England have the ability to offer industry placements to T Level students, a dynamic new pathway of learning which has a heavier emphasis on industry work placements while still maintaining the benefits of classroom learning to create a highly skilled and competent new generation of workers. How We Support You

As a well-established provider of apprenticeships, South Hampshire College Group has a dedicated team to help you recruit apprentices or develop existing staff. We offer a pool of talented, motivated ‘apprentice-ready’ students and provide a free recruitment service.

Employer Responsibilities​

We work closely with you to ensure the apprenticeship suits the job role and meets your needs. The apprentice must be employed by your company, with most training conducted on-the-job with a mentor. Off-the-job training varies and can include day release or training away from the workplace. Upon completion, apprentices must meet industry standards.

Free Recruitment Service

South Hampshire College Group offers a free recruitment service, saving you time and money. We handle job role understanding, marketing vacancies, shortlisting candidates, and conducting initial interviews. Successful candidates are then forwarded to you for consideration.

Recruitment process:

  1. Introductory meeting to discuss training needs
  2. Promoting the apprenticeship vacancy
  3. Shortlisting and initial interviews
  4. Signing up the apprentice, discussing duration, expectations, and conducting a health and safety assessment
  5. Induction and ongoing support

South Coast Institute of Technology

South Hampshire College Group is proud to be part of the South coast Institute of Technology which is backed with over £13 million in funding from the Department for Education, the South Coast Institute of Technology is a collaboration of five further education colleges and two universities.

Working with well known employers including The Royal Navy, Portsmouth International Port and Maritime UK Solent to deliver industry-led courses which fill skills gaps in the Maritime, Engineering and digital sectors. Creating career pathways to deliver and support the economic growth of the South Coast.
