Student: Phoebe Shepherd

Country: Tanzania

Day 2 – Today we woke up at about 8am and went for breakfast. We then went to the national natural history museum of Arusha and met a tour guide who took us around and explained everything. We saw a 200 year old tortoise called Tom and little baby tortoise, they were very cute and we got to hold them. We then went to look at white mice, an eagle, taxidermy animals and she explained information about different animals and the development of human skulls. We then left and went for lunch at a restaurant, I had rice, noodles, chicken and chips. We then went to the Arusha national park, during the bus journey there the driver taught us some Tanzanian words like hello and thank you. Jambo means Hi, Asante Sana means thank you. When we arrived we spoke to a guy that works there. He explained the purpose of the national park and what they do there. When we left he said “we come as students and leave as friends” which was very nice. We then went home and chilled for a bit by the pool and Jo and Charlotte gave us some Easter eggs because it is Easter today which was very nice. We then had dinner at 6:30 and had pumpkin soup for starter and chicken, rice and noodles for dinner. The chef and waiters sang us a couple of their songs. One they sang meant “welcome to Tanzania” “you are welcome” “you are happy” and “your smiles make us happy”. We then sang them song English songs like Sweet Caroline, Macarena, cha cha slide and YMCA. We then danced and sung with the staff, I thought it was fun.
