The Course in Detail

Take the next step in your construction and engineering career with this advanced Level 4 apprenticeship, designed for those ready to develop specialist skills and progress into senior technical roles.

You’ll gain the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to work on complex civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, flood defences, and sustainable infrastructure. This programme combines academic study with practical, hands-on experience, preparing you to lead teams, manage projects, and make confident technical decisions on site.

As part of the apprenticeship, you’ll complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering pathway), earning a nationally recognised qualification highly valued by employers.

A Senior Civil Engineering Technician plays a vital role in supporting the planning, design, and delivery of civil engineering projects. Working alongside engineers, you’ll apply technical expertise and use specialist software to ensure projects meet design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

This apprenticeship is perfect for those with a foundation in construction or engineering, looking to take on greater responsibility and advance their career. You’ll build practical skills and technical knowledge to confidently contribute to a wide range of infrastructure projects, from highways and bridges to flood defences and sustainable construction.

This Level 4 apprenticeship is ideal for those with a foundation in construction or engineering who are ready to step into more senior responsibilities. You’ll gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge to work confidently on a range of construction and infrastructure projects—from bridges and roads to flood defences and sustainable builds.

You’ll build a strong foundation in civil engineering and develop technical and professional skills including:

  • Engineering Principles – Apply maths and science to solve engineering and construction problems

  • Design and Drafting – Use CAD/BIM software, understand structural analysis and design, and explore geotechnics and foundation engineering

  • Project Management – Learn how to plan, schedule and manage resources using tools like MS Project
