Take your next step in the engineering industry with the Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship. This programme is designed for motivated individuals progressing from Level 3 who are ready to deepen their knowledge, gain professional experience, and develop the key skills employers demand.
There are two specialist pathways available – Mechanical or Electrical – depending on your job role in the workplace. You’ll also study a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering alongside your apprenticeship, providing a strong blend of academic theory and hands-on industry application.
You’ll develop your ability to gather and interpret technical data, solve problems, and produce essential documentation that supports the development, manufacture, testing, and maintenance of engineering products. Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll play an active role in supporting engineers to deliver products, processes or procedures that meet customer requirements and business goals.
The knowledge, skills and behaviours you’ll build cover a broad range of core engineering topics – from health and safety and sustainability to quality management, materials, manufacturing methods, data analysis and technical communication. You’ll use lean tools, engineering software packages and project management techniques while learning how to work professionally and proactively within a team.
As part of the 42-month programme, you’ll complete a work-based HNC in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, matched to your workplace role. HNCs are developed with employers and offer a practical and respected route to further study and professional membership. Modules for mechanical engineers may include Engineering Maths, Engineering Principles, Mechanical Principles, Application of Machine Tools, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Thermodynamics, Engineering Mechanics and Materials, and a Professional Engineering Project.
To complete the apprenticeship, you’ll prepare a portfolio of evidence, complete your HNC, and take part in a professional discussion and observation as part of your end-point assessment. Your employer will also need to confirm that you are consistently working at or above the level required for the occupational standard.
This is a comprehensive and professionally focused route for those ready to progress in the engineering manufacturing sector.
You will need to have relevant employment, and entry is subject to interview and assessment.
You must have a Level 3 Technical Certificate in an Engineering discipline, and GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 functional skills) are preferred.
This apprenticeship includes a Higher National Certificate (HNC) designed with employers to meet industry needs. HNCs are highly valued by employers in the UK and overseas and can support progression into higher-level roles or further professional qualifications.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Professional Trainer.
Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.
The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship programme. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.
Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
We have events at all our locations running throughout October and November.
