The Course in Detail

GCSE and Functional Skills Maths

Maths is a core skill that opens the door to a wide range of courses and careers. We offer one-year GCSE and Functional Skills Maths courses for adults who haven’t yet achieved a grade 4/C in GCSE Mathematics or equivalent.

Both options focus on developing your understanding of mathematical methods and concepts, and gain the skills you need to apply maths to real-life situations. These courses help build confidence in areas such as problem solving, logical thinking, and handling data – all essential for work, study and day-to-day life.

Who can apply
This course is for learners aged 19 or over on 1st September.

When and where
Courses run on various days, times and at different locations to suit your needs.

Course fees
If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE Maths grade 4/C or above, this course is free.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

None. After application you will be offered to visit your college of choice for an introduction session which will include a short assessment, the results of which will help to determine whether you are offered Functional Skills or GCSE.

There will be Maths Lecturers and Careers Advisors present to support and advise you accordingly so please don’t worry.

This Could Lead to

Depending on your starting point, you may progress from Level 1 to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths, then on to GCSE Maths. Other progression routes include apprenticeships and further study.

Achieving GCSE English at grade 4 or above can open the door to a wide range of courses and career opportunities, as it’s often the minimum requirement for further education or job applications.
