The Course in Detail

This is the VRQ 2 Beauty Therapy (General pathway), which is an internationally recognised qualification within the beauty industry. Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the course.

The following units are covered:

  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
  • Provide facial skin care treatment
  • Provide pedicure services
  • Provide manicure services
  • Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
  • Carry out waxing services
  • Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Promote additional services or products to customers
  • Provide make-up services
  • Fulfil salon reception duties

You will also learn how to sell beauty treatments and products and advise clients on services. We will help you develop reception and customer service skills, as in the industry you will need to be able to make appointments, handle queries and sell a range of products.

A portfolio will be built up containing assignments, theory workbooks, practically assessed work and mandatory exams. The course is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will be able to gain additional experience in the college salon and reception area. An insight into the career prospects of beauty therapy can be gained if you visit the industries exhibitions through trips that we offer and receiving tutorial advice and guidance as well as having visiting speakers from product companies.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

This qualification is approved for those aiming to work as a junior hairdresser. It provides a strong foundation for further learning or training and equips you with the essential knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to work competently as a junior stylist. On completion, you will have the option to progress to Level 3 Hairdressing to develop advanced skills in colouring, cutting, and restyling.

If English is your second language, you must hold an ESOL Level 1 qualification. There are no other pre-requisites. However, this is a part-time course and will require a high level of home study and commitment.

All part-time learners will be asked to complete an English diagnostic assessment to support the theory elements of the course. The assessment link will be sent to you by our admissions department and can be completed at home.

An information evening will be organised before the course start date, giving you the opportunity to meet your lecturers and gather as much information as possible prior to the commencement of the course. The admissions department will inform you of the date and details.

This Could Lead to

The VTCT Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General) equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills to work confidently as a beauty therapist. This qualification also offers clear progression routes to Level 3 studies, including:

  • VTCT Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage
  • VTCT Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Make-up
  • VTCT Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Nail Services

In addition, learners can progress to specialist VTCT vocationally related qualifications at Levels 2 and 3, providing opportunities to further develop expertise in specific areas of beauty therapy.
