The Course in Detail

Develop your practical maths skills with our Functional Skills Maths Level 1 qualification. This nationally recognised qualification is a flexible alternative to GCSE Maths, designed to help you build confidence and apply mathematical skills in everyday life, work and further study.

Functional Skills Maths focuses on real-life situations, helping you develop the knowledge and confidence to solve practical problems. You’ll learn how to use maths in a range of everyday contexts, from calculating percentages and working with money to interpreting data and measuring accurately.

Throughout the course, you’ll work through structured modules covering the key areas of the Level 1 curriculum. Each module includes practice assessments, activities and opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for the Functional Skills assessment.

On this course, you’ll explore:

  • How to work with numbers, including positive and negative numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages and ratios
  • How to carry out calculations and use estimation, approximation and checking strategies to improve accuracy
  • How to solve problems involving time, money, budgeting and everyday calculations
  • How to calculate measurements, including perimeter, area, volume and converting between different units
  • How to work with shapes, including angles, symmetry, scale drawings and 2D and 3D shapes
  • How to interpret and use data, including averages, probability, graphs and charts
  • How to apply mathematical skills to practical situations in everyday life, work and further study

Please note – This online learning course is only available to learners living within Hampshire and close surrounding areas. Applications from outside these areas will be returned.

While there are no formal entry requirements applicants are required to complete an online assessment and achieve a minimum of Maths Entry Level 3.
