The Course in Detail

Develop your Revit and BIM skills for modern construction projects

This three-day practical course is designed for beginners looking to develop their understanding of Autodesk Revit and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Through tutor-led demonstrations and hands-on exercises, you’ll learn how to navigate Revit, create and manage building models, develop key building elements and produce professional drawings and documentation.

Ideal for anyone starting their journey with Revit across construction, engineering and design disciplines, this course provides a practical introduction to BIM-enabled workflows using Autodesk Revit (2026).

No previous Revit, CAD or BIM experience is required.

On successful completion of the three-day course, you will receive a CETC (SHCG) Certificate of Completion.

The course does not include a formal assessment. Your skills will be developed through practical exercises, tutor guidance and hands-on experience using Autodesk Revit.

What you’ll learn

Throughout the course, you’ll develop practical skills in:

Revit Fundamentals and BIM Workflows

  • Understanding Building Information Modelling (BIM) concepts and terminology
  • Navigating the Revit interface, including ribbons, toolbars and project views
  • Understanding elements, categories, families and properties
  • Setting up and managing a new Revit project

Creating and Managing Building Models

  • Creating and modifying levels and grids
  • Developing walls, floors, roofs and ceilings
  • Adding doors, windows and component families
  • Managing views, visibility settings and view templates

Documentation and Presentation

  • Creating plans, elevations, sections and 3D views
  • Adding dimensions, tags, annotations and detail views
  • Creating schedules, legends and project information
  • Producing sheets and exporting drawings to PDF and CAD formats

Advanced Modelling Techniques

  • Working with families and basic editing tools
  • Creating rooms, colour-fill legends and graphic overrides
  • Developing stairs, ramps and railings
  • Exploring basic massing and 3D presentation techniques

Practical Project Work

You’ll complete guided exercises throughout the course, building a small project model and producing a set of drawings including plans, sections, elevations and 3D views.
