Gear Up for Success!

Prepare for a rewarding career in the motor vehicle industry with our comprehensive Level 2 course. You’ll develop essential skills in routine vehicle maintenance and gain hands-on experience in removing and replacing key components, including engine units, auxiliary electrical units, and chassis parts. You’ll also learn to conduct thorough pre and post-work vehicle inspections, ensuring you’re ready for real-world challenges.

This course covers vital knowledge needed for both light and heavy vehicle maintenance, equipping you with a solid foundation for future employment or apprenticeships. Key topics include spark and compression ignition engine systems, vehicle steering, braking and suspension maintenance, as well as inspection methods for wheels, tyres, and exhaust systems. You’ll also get familiar with basic vehicle electrical systems and learn about health and safety protocols.

To enhance your learning, if you are not already working in a garage you’ll be encouraged to secure a work placement for at least five days, giving you valuable garage experience. The programme also includes tutorials, and site visits, alongside guest speakers to broaden your industry insights.

You’ll work in our state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshops, equipped with the latest diagnostic testing and repair facilities.

Whether you’re working on cars, bikes, or commercial vehicles, you’ll gain hands-on experience that will set you up for success in this evolving sector.

What You'll Need

You will need four GCSEs at grades 3-9, or equivalent (including English, maths and science)

OR

Relevant Level 1 qualification including GCSE English, maths and science at grades 3-9, or equivalent.

This Could Lead to

Once completed you may be able to progress onto the Level 3 Maintenance, Installation & Repair: Light & Electric Vehicles or into an apprenticeship.
