The Course in Detail

The City College Young Chefs’ Academy is designed to give students, from years 10 and 11, the first taste of working in a professional kitchen and within the hospitality and catering industry. The aim of the course is to excite, develop and nurture young talent over a period of 6 weeks. If you’re in your final years of school and have a passion for cooking or are considering a future career in the hospitality and catering industry, then sign up to our exciting Young Chefs’ Academy! *Good news… thanks to the support from some of our partner organisations, we have been able to reduce the price of the 2025 start course from £180 to just £90. All ingredients will be provided. Limited places available – apply now! Important Notice Please note that all courses are subject to minimum numbers. If there are too few enrolments, the College may cancel the course. A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until enrolment is complete and any relevant fees are paid. The course fee must be paid at least 3 weeks before start date.

Students will develop confidence and social skills, be empowered to cook and eat healthily and be provided with impartial career advice. During the course, we will cover the following: Week 1 – Poultry prep, knife safety, food safety & kitchen hazards Week 2 – Cake baking Week 3 – Cook poultry – creating a dish suitable for a restaurant Week 4 – Baking sweet dough products Week 5 – On trend ‘street food’ session Week 6 – Optional meal with Exclusive Hotels – see how we work with industry and the types of foods you could go on to produce as a Chef or Pâtissier

All of the learning is completed through practical sessions in the college’s modern industry-standard kitchen facility. The classes are instructive while in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our modern commercial kitchens and commercial fine dining Aspire restaurant will provide you with the perfect place to learn and gain real hospitality and catering experience.

What You'll Need

The only entry requirements for this course a love of cooking or baking and being in Year 10 or Year 11 at school. Places on this course are limited, so we advise applying early! No interview is required for this course. We will email you information about how to pay and complete your enrolment when we receive your application. Your place is not secured until you have paid and completed online enrolment.
