Access to Higher Education Diplomas are perfect if you would like to study at a degree level but currently do not have the necessary qualifications to apply but do have life experience and a willingness to learn.
Access to HE Diplomas are intensive courses offered over a single year on a part-time basis as an alternative way to university for people who have not had the opportunity to achieve the entry requirements necessary during their earlier education.
The Health Professionals Diploma supports you to progress onto various degrees, including but not limited to; nursing (adult, children or mental health), midwifery, social work, paramedic science, psychology, ODP and education.
The course contains several different units, including academic study skills, human biology, chemistry, psychology, sociology and health.
The workload on the Access to HE course is high, and it is essential you are fully prepared for this intense way to study. During the course, you will be supported to apply for a higher education course at universities, through UCAS, or directly with the course provider, as is the case with colleges offering degrees.
Financial Support
* Great news… if this is your first Level 3 qualification, you may be entitled to all of your fees being paid.
* If you take out an Advanced Learner Loan to fund your Access to HE Diploma, then go on to successfully complete your degree or subsequent higher education course, the Government will pay the loan that covered your Access course. Please be aware if you do not complete the course, you will still be liable to pay the full course fees. A deposit will be required at the start of the course if you are applying for a loan, but this will be returned when your loan is finalised. This course is eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
Important Notice
Please note that all courses are subject to minimum numbers. If there are too few enrolments, the College may cancel the course. A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until enrolment is complete and any relevant fees are paid.
You will require a GCSE grade 4/C or above in English, Maths and Science, and a knowledge of the universities and courses you would like to progress to. Some Universities will accept functional skills in English and Maths, so depending on your university or course this may be acceptable. There may be the opportunity to study English or Maths alongside this course.
If you’re looking to study a Degree in any health, social care or education subject, you will also require experience in a relevant area (either through work or volunteering).
On successful completion of the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Professionals), you can progress to university to study a degree in:
