You’ll cover key topics like working in the health and science sector, core science concepts, and adult nursing, while completing an employer-set project to put your skills to the test.
The course enhances your employment prospects through extended, hands-on experience in real-life healthcare work placements, supported by experienced professionals. Lessons are conducted in our hospital-style ward classrooms, providing you with practical insights into the industry and developing the key skills and knowledge essential for success. You’ll also benefit from a minimum 45-day industry placement, giving you valuable exposure to the healthcare environment.
Assessment is diverse, incorporating externally set exams, a final practical assignment, and employer observations, with grades awarded as Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction*. In Year 1, you’ll establish a solid foundation of knowledge and skills relevant to all occupational specialisms, covering topics like person-centred care, health and wellbeing, and infection prevention and control.
In Year 2, you’ll specialise in supporting healthcare and the adult nursing team. Throughout the course, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of health and science, including health, safety, and environmental regulations, managing information and data, and principles of good scientific and clinical practice. You’ll also explore specific healthcare science topics, such as human anatomy and physiology, diseases and disorders, genomics, and medical physics, with a strong focus on providing person-centred care and infection control practices.
