If you’re looking to make your mark in the hair and beauty industry, this course will give you the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed, especially in performance and media make-up artistry. Focusing on creative hair and make-up for live performance, you’ll gain hands-on experience working backstage on live theatre productions within the college.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop a professional portfolio while learning to work to industry standards, preparing you for a career in this fast-paced field. You’ll also complete work experience as part of the course, giving you valuable insights and connections within the industry.

You will learn:

  • Facial anatomy for make-up artists
  • Creative make-up application techniques
  • Hair styling and colouring
  • Applying hair additions and wigs
  • Editorial make-up and hair for photography and media
  • Avant-garde hair and make-up for live performance
  • Employability and freelance skills in the hair and make-up sector
  • Safe and hygienic working practices
In addition to your studies, you’ll have the chance to visit local theatres, industry shows, and exhibitions such as the IMATS exhibition and the Harry Potter Studio Tour. All students are required to wear a full uniform during practical sessions, ensuring a professional standard in our on-site salons.

You will need four GCSEs at grades 3-9, or equivalent (including English and maths.Science is preferable).

Once completed you may be able to progress on to our specialist Level 3 Performing & Production Arts (Make-up) course to advance your skills and knowledge to best prepare you for your career.
