The Course in Detail

Are you passionate about supporting the learning and development of children? This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to care for and work with children aged 0-5 years.

Throughout the course, you will complete a range of practical and theory-based units, specialising in early years  settings to give you a comprehensive foundation for a career in Early Years and Education.

In addition, you will complete a work placement in an early years setting, where you will build on your competency skills and professional skills You’ll also get involved in exciting projects, from making leaflets and posters to producing presentations and writing assignments, giving you a well-rounded set of skills for the early years industry.

As part of the course, you will follow a full-time study programme that includes a minimum of 250 hours of work placement experience. This will provide you with valuable real-world experience and excellent insights into working with children from birth to 5years old, during which you’ll be expected to wear a set college uniform. A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will also be required.

You will learn topics such as:

  • Child development from birth to 5 years
  • Play and learning
  • Nutrition and physical development
  • Safeguarding, protection, and welfare of babies and young children
  • Role of the practitioner
  • Exploring legislation related to early years

In addition to your core studies, you’ll take part in trips, visits, and industry-related activities such as networking events, guest lectures, and careers fairs. This course provides an excellent pathway to employment, apprenticeships, or further study in the childcare sector.

Our dedicated Childcare & Early Years department includes practical learning spaces, mock kitchens and nursery settings and more ensuring you have everything you need to succeed.

 

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will need four GCSEs at grades 3-9, or equivalent (including English and maths)

OR

A relevant Level 1 qualification (merit or distinction grade) including GCSE English and maths grades 3-9, or equivalent.

This Could Lead to

Upon successful completion of this Level 2 course, you may be able to progress to our T Level Education & Childcare to advance your skills and experience, or alternatively move into an apprenticeship.
