The Course in Detail

This course is for volunteers and newly employed classroom assistants who have been working in an education setting for less than two years, supporting pupils aged 4-16 years who are in year 1 or above (NOT reception year). It is also suitable for those supporting students in a Further Education setting working at or up to Key Stage 4 and/or with special educational needs.

The Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a practical, part-time course which includes optional units and allows the qualification to be tailored to the age and needs of the pupils being supported as well as the setting. Your tutor and assessor will guide you through the process.

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You are required to be in a work placement for at least ten hours a week. These can be voluntary hours or paid employment. The support of a mentor within the workplace is also required. There may be the opportunity to support on a voluntary basis at the College – please enquire at interview if interested.

You need to have a minimum of Level 1 Literacy (English) and be working towards Level 2 Literacy (English) and Numeracy (maths) or equivalent qualifications.

If English is not your first language and you have taken qualifications outside of the UK, you will need to have the equivalence checked by NARIC prior to your interview. An excellent command of English (IELTS 6.5) is required.

You will be required to attend a College interview prior to enrolling onto the course.

This Could Lead to

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools qualification. Alternatively, you may move into paid employment within the sector.
