The Course in Detail

This Introduction to Counselling course is ideal if you wish to start training to become a qualified counsellor and have no previous experience. It is a short introduction which outlines the concepts of counselling and provides the opportunity to begin your skills practice. If you wish to learn more about counselling, are working in a support role and wish to become a professional counsellor, this qualification will give you the knowledge needed to get you started in this profession, and to progress to higher level counselling qualifications.

This course will provide you with the skills, attitudes and ethics required to begin your training in counselling. You will be introduced to the three main counselling styles:

  • Person Centred Counselling
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychodynamic

During this course, you will take part in discussions, small and whole group work as well as practising listening skills.

The learning style of this course is largely student-centred and relies on you having the motivation and maturity to complete tasks independently. You will take part in group discussions and skills practice.
