The Course in Detail

This Level 1 Bookkeeping AAT course is ideal for adults wanting to pursue a career in accountancy or gain some book keeping skills at a time to suit.

The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that you are well prepared to progress into a business, finance or professional accountancy career or further education. Completing this qualification will develop your accountancy skills in bookkeeping and basic costing, as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. You will also learn basic Contract Law and develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace.

Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, good numeracy skills and an understanding of the business environment, all of which are included in the qualification.

The sessions will take you through learning and mock exams in readiness for exams in the following topics:

  • Understand the role of the book keeper
  • Understand financial transactions
  • Process customer and supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments
  • Understand the benefits and risks of using accountancy software to complete book keeping tasks

Entry Requirements & Progression

What You'll Need

You will be required to attend an online interview with the course tutor prior to commencement on the course and demonstrate an appropriate standard of Literacy and Numeracy. Basic IT skills will also be required. A pre-entry requirement for the course is the completion of an online assessment in English and Maths.

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a professional body and membership is required in order to undertake this qualification. Registration with the AAT must be made upon commencement of the course and will incur an additional cost.

Course text books will also be required and full details will be given upon commencement. A calculator, a notebook, pens and an A4 folder will be required from the start of the course.

This Could Lead to

The finance, accountancy, business and communications skills developed in the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping can lead to employment as an accounts administrator, accounts assistant, accounts payable clerk, purchase/sales ledger clerk, trainee accounting technician and trainee finance assistant to name but a few.

The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level accountancy and financial skills developed in the AAT Advanced and Professional Accounting Qualifications.
