The Course in Detail

Do you want to help a business manage its money effectively? Then a career in accounting could be for you.

An accounts or finance assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. You would be responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business you’re working for. Your work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, and recording of cash and data entry.

On this Accounts / Finance Assistant Apprenticeship programme, you’ll gain the necessary skills and knowledge to start your career in this rewarding but demanding industry.

This apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours to demonstrate competency of an Assistant Accountant and covers key requirements to include:

  • General business skills
  • Understanding your organisation
  • Accounting systems and processes
  • Basic accounting
  • Ethical standards

You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours through on and off-the-job training and are expected to attend College on a day release basis.
