The Course in Detail

This course will provide education about how to support a young person through grief and loss. It is applicable to any adult that is involved with caring for a young person. It teaches a holistic view of young people, including neuroscience and practical applications of support. Those who take this course will gain a more solid understanding regarding the impact of bereavement and loss, and how to navigate their caring role to accommodate young people’s needs.

We will cover:

  • Neuroscience of young people
  • Types of loss and Bereavement – including potential impact on emotions and behaviour
  • Language – how this can be adapted to support and normalise experiences of bereavement and loss
  • Resources – demonstration of how to utilise resources to support young people in expressing their emotions around bereavement and loss
  • Education around models of grief and how to adapt this to support young people

You will learn practical listening skills, where to access resources and how to utilise them, the science behind bereavement and loss, models of grief and how to adapt language and self for the young person. This is adaptable and inclusive of diversity. 

Course fee concessions are possible – eligibility is based on income.
