The Course in Detail

This course provides a mixture of both core and specialist knowledge over a two-year period. In year one you will learn the core knowledge for Legal Finance and Accounting which includes but is not restricted to:  

  • The business environment  
  • Careers within the legal, finance and accounting sector  
  • Professionalism and ethics  
  • Security and risk 
  • Third party professional services 
  • Fundamentals of law  
  • Fundamentals of financial accounting  
  • Project/change management approaches in legal contexts

In your second year you will have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following

  • Legal services assistant – business, finance and employment*
  • Legal services assistant – crime, criminal justice and social welfare*

*specialisms at the discretion of the college.

The qualification has been developed in partnership with industry expert CILEX (The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives), one of the three main professional bodies covering the legal profession in England and Wales. The course will be delivered through a combination of theory based and practical activities including team projects. You will also be expected to carry out extensive work experience, otherwise known as an industry placement which could equate to a minimum of 315 hours. 

In year 1 you will be assessed through an Employer Set Project which ensures you can combine core knowledge and skills as well as an externally marked exam. Combined this will be graded A*-U. In year 2 you will specialise and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve competence status. You will be assessed by a synoptic assessment which will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What You'll Need

Five GCSEs at grade 9-5 including English and Maths, a Pre T Level, OR a full Level 2 qualification with a Merit profile AND grades 9-5 in GCSE English and Maths.

This Could Lead to

This T Level attributes UCAS points in line with A Levels and could lead to university or higher training such as a Higher Apprenticeship, Foundation Degree or a Degree in a related subject. This T Level provides a route directly into employment and directly into the CILEX Professional Qualification (CPQ), on-the-job training.
