This course provides a mixture of both core and specialist knowledge over a two year period. Students will be expected to carry out extensive work experience to develop their skills and knowledge. High standards of attire are a strict requirement during your course and will include a set college uniform. Text books relating to your course will be available and these are essential for your learning.
As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will either need to be working or be on a practical placement, during the taught programme of study and therefore will also require a clear Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
The course starts with students learning the core knowledge for the Health sector. This includes consideration of the following 13 aspects.
Students then develop specialist knowledge required for this particular sector. This includes showing competence of the knowledge and skills of following performance outcomes.
Core knowledge is assessed through an Employer Set Project and an externally marked exam. These elements are combined to provide a final grade between A*-U.
The specialist knowledge ensures students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve ‘competence’ in Supporting the care of children and young people. Students will be assessed by synoptic assessments and observations that are carried out while on their work placements.

You can socialise with friends in the café and comfy seating areas, join a club or sports team or attend exciting events around the college. Many of our enrichment opportunities are also great on your CV or UCAS application to demonstrate your commitment and enthusiasm outside of your studies.
Your time at college can also be affected by life or health difficulties, and it’s okay to need support. Our specialist teams are here every day to listen and give advice, whether it’s about career planning, financial support, mental health, or something else. And if you have a long-term support need or medical condition, we’ll work with you on personalised learning support to help you achieve your full potential.
