The Course in Detail

This two-year course will provide you with a broad understanding of how the public services are funded and run, together with the roles and responsibilities that are required in each of these areas.

You will be assessed on your general coursework which is an even mix of practical and theoretical, and the course will prepare you for progression to university in a similar subject to help improve your employment opportunities.

You will also develop your physical fitness, levels of self-discipline and ability to lead others. Interaction with serving public service personnel is a big part of the course as this will give you first-hand experience of what a prospective career in your chosen service may look like.

You will study units such as:

  • Career planning for the public services
  • Teamwork and leadership
  • Citizenship and diversity in British society
  • Improving physical fitness for entry into the services
  • Planning and management of major incidents
  • Land navigation by map and compass
  • Outdoor adventurous activities.

There will be opportunities to attend a wide range of team-building activities, and take part in off-campus visits to related organisations such as the Police and Fire Service, Army, RAF, Royal Navy and the Royal Marines.
