This course is designed to set you up for a future in Health & Nursing or Biomedical & Healthcare Science. You’ll gain a solid foundation in both science and health and social care, with a mix of practical and theoretical learning. Whether you’re looking to become a professional carer or work in a laboratory setting, this course will help you build the skills and knowledge you need.
The science part of the course covers key subjects like earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics, giving you the practical skills to conduct investigations in a lab. You’ll work on a science-based project and develop your investigative abilities, learning techniques used in both medical and commercial labs.
On the health and social care side, you’ll focus on essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and care values. You’ll also learn about health and safety, the different types of health and social care services, and how to meet individual needs. Along the way, you’ll complete assignments that involve creating reports, leaflets, and posters, just like you would in a real care setting.
In addition, you’ll get the chance to put your skills to the test during a 4-week work experience placement, where you’ll gain hands-on experience in a real-world environment.
You will learn:
Earth science: Explore the changing nature of our planet and our role as humans living on Earth
Biology: Understand the factors that affect health and wellbeing
Chemistry: Investigate the practical uses of chemicals and analytical techniques used in labs
Science and Health: Discover how science is helping to treat diseases and infections in society
Careers in Science: Explore career paths in science and create a plan to achieve your goals
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and confidence to progress to further study or step into the world of healthcare and science. Whether you choose to focus on health, nursing, or biomedical science, this course will open doors to a variety of career opportunities.
