The Course in Detail

Start your future in Uniformed Public Services

Are you considering a career in the uniformed services? This two-year course provides a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge needed for roles in the armed forces, police, fire and rescue services, and other public service sectors. With a blend of practical and theoretical learning, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the values, standards, and responsibilities required in these fields.

Throughout the course, you’ll study a range of topics designed to prepare you for a career in the uniformed services, including career planning, leadership and teamwork, improving physical fitness, planning and managing major incidents, and understanding citizenship and diversity in British society. Practical experience is a key component of this programme, with opportunities to engage with various uniformed services through activities such as drill exercises, fitness assessments, and role-playing scenarios. You’ll also have the chance to take part in outdoor and adventurous activities, as well as work experience with the uniformed services.

You’ll develop essential skills such as map reading and navigation, conflict management, and professional discipline. Previous opportunities have included training days with the Royal Marines, Army, and Eastleigh Fire Station, talks from the Royal Navy, and acting as casualties for paramedic final assessments. Regular interactions with serving public service personnel will give you first-hand insights into your chosen career path and help you prepare for the entry processes of each service.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll attend visits to organisations such as the Police, Fire Service, Army, RAF, and Royal Navy. These experiences will enhance your understanding of the different services and their roles in society. Whether you’re looking to join the police, fire service, or armed forces, this course provides a comprehensive introduction and a stepping stone to success.

Upon successful completion of the first year you will receive a Level 3 Diploma in Uniformed Public Services, and upon successful completion of the second year you will receive a Level 3 Extended Diploma.
